ESSENTIAL GUIDE TO BAND STAGE SIZES
Get the right stage size for your band, and you'll get the best out of the entertainment you've booked. Too big and the band will be lost on it or it could look unbalanced in the room. Too small and the band won't be able to move around freely, dance, and perform at their best.
Why do I need a stage at all?
Having the band slightly raised is important for a number of reasons;
- It gives the band a bit of height enabling all your guests to see the performers
- It gives the band a performance space to throw some shapes
- They can set up all the equipment, cabling and instruments without getting in anyones way
- It creates a focal point in the room for the party
- It's a great place to get up and have a boogie with the band!
- Placing moving lights on or above the stage helps create the right party atmosphere
Based on hundreds of events and many years of experience, the tables below are our essential guides to the right size for each band size. This doesn't take into account the room layout, amount of space available, or the type of instruments on stage, so we always advise giving us a call to discuss your event in more detail. We will happily give our advice and the benefit of our experience with no obligation to use our services.

Table 2
Multi Level Stages - Ideal Sizes & Minimum Sizes
For larger bands a multi-level stage works really well, although is not essential. This gives the back line of musicians a bit of extra height, or can be done using risers for the drummer, or particular sections of the band. Visually this creates a really great focal point.
Band Size | Width | Depth | Level 1 | Level 2 | Min. Width | Min. Depth | Min. Level 1 | Min. Level 2 |
12pc | 7m | 5m | 0.5m | 0.8m | 6m | 5m | 0.3m | 0.6m |

24pc | 12m | 6m | 0.5m | 0.8m | 10m | 5m | 0.3m | 0.6m |
28pc | 12m | 6m | 0.5m | 0.8m | 10m | 5m | 0.3m | 0.6m |
Other Important Considerations:
- What else will the stage be used for (DJ, dancers, speeches etc)?
- How big is the room (it needs to be in proportion to the dimensions of the room)?
Creating the wow factor
A stage is the focal point of the room, and will be where the important events of the evening take place. This creates an opportunity to make the stage the centrepiece of the room. This can be achieved in a number of ways:
- Interesting and creative backdrops
- Dynamic lighting schemes
- Multi level stages
- Podiums and catwalks to make the stage more interactive
